Linda McBain Cuyler

Linda McBain Cuyler interprets the rich textures and colours of nature in her fibre art. She combines drawing, paint and fiber to create paintings truly unique to her. The artwork is painted with acrylic on a background of non-woven, cotton fabric. Hand-guided machine stitching is added for detail, texture and outlining. Each piece is an original artwork with its own variations in colour and stitching.

Linda has lived in Edmonton, Alberta most of her life. Her former career as an interior designer leads her to create landscape-based work that is inviting and viewer-friendly.  Now, far from her start in fibre which was making pompom animals at age 8, she exhibits internationally.  Linda teaches art and creative classes in Alberta and across Canada. Linda also produces a line of handmade art and greeting cards.

Linda is a member of the Embroiderers’ Association of Canada and a member of the Alberta Craft Council. She is a past president of the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild and has received an Edmonton Artists' Trust Fund Award. She exhibits in many Galleries and Craft Stores across Canada.

Linda McBain Cuyler is represented by Rowles & Company in Edmonton.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Sometimes genius is............. just the thing that emerges after 20 years of working at your kitchen table. I am a fiber artist who combines paint and free motion machine embroidery to create landscapes, garden-scapes and work influenced by one or the other. My work is all about colour and texture. Each artwork is unique and there is no end to the variety of imagery in Alberta. I find inspiration in the natural world – the landscape and lovely snippets of nature.  I see everything in bright colours, but I am also interested in the textures provided by the fabric and thread. As a graduate of the Interior Design program at the University of Manitoba, I try to create art that will be welcomed into your home and adds happiness to your surroundings.”
